It’s time for me to practice what I preach folks!!☀️

I’m forever over here advocating for teachers to listen to their bodies and take time out for themselves yet I here I was, at burn out point myself just this week!! 🙈

So now, my friends, I am having a week or two off to get out of the four walls of my office, spend some quality time with my young children, my ah-mazing husband and enjoy time making memories in the sun! ☀️

Don’t get me wrong, I still have my lap top with me and I will be scheduling in some work time whist I’m away, [life of an entrepreneur] but for the most of it, I’ll be chillin!!!

I can clearly remember the day I got offered my very first teaching role and the feeling of pure joy (and relief) that I felt at that moment, back in 2009.⠀

Once the shock and disbelief wore off, the first thing I did was begin to map out my classroom theme and hunt around for classroom decor. I decided on a frog theme 🐸 and because this was at a time before I had Pinterest and Instagram (I don’t even think they existed back then??!!) I did a few Google searches and ended up making my own (on MS Word!! 🤣) as there really wasn’t much to choose from back then at all!⠀

I came in to school at any chance I could over those summer holidays to prepare and deck out my new classroom. If the school was open, I was there!!! It gave me so much joy seeing it come together - MY classroom that I had dreamed of not only for my four years of Uni, but for a decade before that, from when I was a little girl in primary school myself. ⠀

I was not ‘influenced’ by anyone to dedicate my summer to creating the classroom of my dreams. I did it because it made me happy. I did it because teaching exited me. I did it because I wanted to create a learning space that my students could thrive in and be proud of.
I did it because I wanted to.⠀

My point to this post, if you haven’t already guessed, is that if you want to spend your time creating a beautiful environment for you and your students this year, then you damn well should! Please block out the noise and do not be made to feel shame or guilt for doing so. ⠀
Will it make you a better teacher? Probably not!
Will it make you and your students happy? Hell yes!
And we all know what happens in an environment where people are happy. Yep, you guessed it! They thrive!

So please, continue to do what makes you happy and what you enjoy. And others who choose to do things differently should keep their options to themselves rather than cause self doubt and insecurity in others.

Since releasing my neutral classroom decor ranges, I've had countless teachers tell that before now, they've never gone with an official classroom 'theme' as such. However the modern calming tones, flexibility to customise and the ease of implementing my resources have enticed them to give it a go in 2021! 🥰⁠⠀
